Muses from Matty....

Just a quick update on our life with a newborn...Matty has been developing into quite a personality and is a whole lot of fun, except for his newly developed "cranky period" which I saw once during his first few weeks of life but is going on 4 nights strait now. Around 11 each night, he is wide awake, cranky, and cries almost non stop. This has lasted until 3am one night, but usually subsides around 1am. They (all those books) say that this could be colic...not sure if it is or not but we are getting creative with ways to handle it and keep him happy and us sane. He's lucky he is so damn cute because even during those crying bouts, he is irresistible. Let's hope the batteries on the calming vibration chair don't run out too soon!

Matty also had his first bottle last night. We wanted him to get introduced to it early enough that he will be good with the bottle and still breastfeeding, as he will be in daycare after I go back to work. Andrew also likes the idea of feeding him too and having a little daddy bonding time. Here's a picture from our first attempt, he did really well! Now I just have to figure out a schedule of pumping and feeding him.

We are getting into a bit of a routine now and always looking for reasons to get out of the house. Yesterday Matty and I went to a Mommy and Me class that the hospital where we delivered runs. There was about 9 moms there with their babies and we all just sat around in bean bag chairs talking, asking questions and sharing advice. I wasn't sure I would like this kind of thing but actually it was great and I can see myself going every week. I met a mom who has a son that was born 2 days after Matty...his name is Andrew and her husband's name is Matthew! We got a kick out of that one!

No pictures from Mommy and Me but here's a few more recent pictures just for fun!

That Mommy and Me class sounds great!

A friend of mine uses the stuff below when their son Gary is feeling out of sorts - maybe it will work for Matty.

Gripe Water! The brand we use is Gentle Care – no parabens, less bicarbonate than some others.

The Mommy group sounds great, we stayed friends with three of the families from way back when Griffin was born, now he has some very dear friends the same age that we see regularly. Nothing beats it.
